30th June 2024, PCI3.x EFTPOS Terminals will be disconnected in New Zealand

Why am I having to upgrade?

Understandably, you might wonder why upgrading your EFTPOS terminal is necessary. Here's why:

The PCI Security Standards Council, a global organisation, establishes security benchmarks for payments worldwide. In New Zealand, Payments NZ acts as the regulatory body entrusted with maintaining these security standards within the country's payment system. Payments NZ sets sunset dates for each new payment terminal and software version introduced to the market. This proactive approach ensures that the payment ecosystem remains at the forefront of security by consistently updating payment software and devices to meet industry requirements.

By adhering to these standards and upgrading your EFTPOS terminal accordingly, you're not only safeguarding cardholders against fraud but also protecting the reputation of your business. Upgrading ensures that your business remains compliant with the latest security measures, bolstering trust and confidence among your customers.

I cant get hold of my provider or I own my terminal?

If you’re using a PCI 3.x EFTPOS Terminal, a physical terminal replacement is necessary rather than just a software update. If you find it challenging to reach your provider or if you own your EFTPOS terminal, it's crucial to note this requirement. If you're already contemplating an upgrade, seize this opportunity to switch to us at EFTPOS Central. We’ve been locally owned and based in New Zealand for over 3 decades and we are the experts when it comes to EFTPOS and Payment Solutions.

What if I don’t upgrade?

If you're utilising any 3.x hardware it is imperative that you upgrade before 30th June 2024, you must replace your terminal(s) before then. Failure to do so will result in disconnection from the Worldline network. It is highly recommended that you upgrade or replace your affected terminals and consider it a business-critical item.
